Top Tips: Towels, Towels Towels
Sauna bathing here in the UK is something which many of us do only when at the Gym, Leisure Centre or Spa and can often be seen as just a pleasurable experience. The health benefits of regular and efficient sauna bathing are often ignored with many users thinking nothing of heading straight to the sauna from the pool and vice versa.
Dripping swimsuits and wood really don’t mix. Many of our sites are experiencing water damage to sauna benches which is severe enough to require complete replacement or refurbishment of the benches on a regular basis.
Our German, and indeed many European, counterparts see sauna bathing in a very different light and incorporate this activity into weekly life. The health benefits are known and recommended cycles are observed. There are no wet swimsuits allowed and towels are essential kit.
OK so we are not going to change everyone’s approach to sauna bathing (although it would be good to see a nation of healthy sauna bathers!). But you can enhance your users experience and look after your investment in the equipment by doing one simple thing. Implement the ‘Bums on Towels’ rule.
Education is key. Encourage users to bathe in cycles, allowing time to dry off and cool down in between each use and firmly advise that all users of the sauna should sit on towels. Your clients will start to reap the benefits of efficient bathing and you the benefits of fewer repair jobs.
Lets start a revolution and get those towels in motion!
