A new European directive came into force January 2009 and states that the sauna control must be placed within 2 metres of the centre of the door (for both commercial and domestic projects).

The primary reason for this directive is sauna safety. Historically, fire hazards have been regularly observed with textile items such as towels left on the sauna stones. Basic safety checks have not always been observed.

Practically speaking, the new directive causes limitations on function and design. Commercial clients generally require discreet and centrally controlled systems whilst the private client looks to the aesthetic values of any control system.

Fully compliant remote control systems

Meeting the conditions for full compliance means that where the control unit cannot be placed within 2 metres of the door, the remote system has to provide sufficient security to avoid safety hazards associated with the heating appliance, as well as meeting current Building Regulations.

KLAFS Remote Key System

Our remote key system is a patented and fully compliant system that means you will satisfy the EU directive as well as bring enhanced security and safety to your saunas.

Simple and safe design

Surface mounted to exterior of Sauna

Heater operates on key turn

Interfaces readily with Building Control Systems and Klafs control systems

Klafs strive to be the market leader in cutting edge design and safety of saunas – and our Remote Key Switch is part of a series of innovations that reinforce our vision.
